The Wall of Ernst Ties

Philip was a lifelong collector of "weird & ugly" ties (see below), but he also loved the clean lines & colors of San Francisco's B.J. Ernst, and amassed a large collection ranging from the 1950s to 70s. In 2015 he constructed this wall installation to show off his collection in his Morro Bay cottage.
In 1987, Philip won the Binghamton Press-Sun Bulletin's Ugly Tie Contest, and appeared in an article with these beautiful photos by Matt Mendelsohn.
